There is much urban decay in Detroit where some factories are abandoned by the owners and are left to rot and fall apart.
In countries like Afghanistan there are many huts and houses that are just falling apart and the owners don't have the resources to repair or make a new one.
There is graffiti on a lot of buildings around the world especially in America
Many houses have roads and sidewalks that are just falling apart and the material that fills that space is gravel
Some places around the world have repairs to the buildings but those repairs are just pieces of metal
The Facts
The poor who could not afford a more expensive apartment couldn't live on the lower floors.
The more rickety wooden stairs the poor had to climb the less expensive the rooms became.
The upper floors of the island(apartments) were hot smelly and very dangerous.
The sewage was overflowed and ran into the river near the cities and caused many diseases.
Those who were out of a house were most likely to be killed on the crime filled streets
When the apartments became empty because of high rental costs the building was burned by civilians or just left to rot and fall apart
The roads of the empire were crumbling and were not being repaired due to lack of money.
The sewage system was ruined and could not be fixed due to lack of money and the people who had no access to the bathrooms just dumped their waste into the streets.

Expert Contact Dear Gregory Thompson, Our names are Jansen and Nick and we are in the 7th grade and attend Nagel Middle school. We are studying urban decay in the ancient Roman times. There was a problem of filth and urban decay that was overflowing the streets of Rome. We are looking for answers to help what would have solved the problems in Rome and we are hoping that you would be able to help us. We know that the property of many Romans were falling apart and those Romans just depended on the government to repair it.
First could the law of the sidewalk consultation be able to help the Romans with their urban decay back then?
Our second question is, would it have helped the Romans in their problems if there was a "Health inspector" that would see their property and if it wasn't clean or didn't meet the standards then they would have a certain time to clean it up before getting evicted?
Would you think that to be a fair solution or would it cause problems for the poor?
Thank you for your time and dedication in answering these questions.
